Relaxation of wrinkles

Wrinkle reduction injections using Botulinum are the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure worldwide for both men and women with over  six million treatments administered every year.

It is fast, easy and extremely effective with no downtime and minimal discomfort. It has been used in medicine and known to be safe since the 1970s and been used for its ability to treat excessive sweating, migraines, muscular disorders, and some bladder and bowel disorders.

Botox® is one brand, others are also used and are the same protein and work in the same way. They all work by blocking a neurotransmitter called Acetylcholine, which relaxes the muscle. 

As repetitive facial expressions move the muscles, this leads to wrinkles and lines - like repeated folding of a piece of paper. Botulinium toxin works to relax the muscle so smoothing the lines. 

The effect lasts for 4-6 months – this means you will need top-ups a few times a year if you wish to maintain your line-free look.

Once you’ve had it injected, the effects on the muscles usually become apparent within a few hours, with the main effects appearing after about a week.

Who might benefit from wrinkle-reducing injections?

This treatment can be used on a wide range of patients, and is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. 

It can improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It can also be injected into the area around the side of the eyes to improve the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet lines.

How is the procedure done?

The  procedure is a relatively simple procedure that uses a fine needle to inject tiny amounts of the solution into specific muscles of the face, most often forehead wrinkles and nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth. 

Dr Tara will evaluate your facial appearance and skin tone before performing any injections.

Prior to your treatment with  the area or areas to be injected will be thoroughly cleaned, and Dr Tara will determine the placement of each injection, based on the size and depth of the facial crease or fold being treated. To effectively treat the entire muscle, several injections along the facial line are usually required. Dr Tara will be able to determine the ideal placement of each injection to achieve maximum effect.

The entire procedure takes only a few minutes and discomfort is minimal, requiring no anaesthesia or sedation. Although some patients choose to have a single area treated at each setting, many people choose to have multiple areas treated during the same appointment.
